Moving to Hopkins

The City of Hopkins welcomes you and your family to the quaint little suburban community west of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Hopkins is surrounded by several larger suburbs including Minnetonka and Edina. Although Hopkins is only about four square miles in size, much of the land is developed and in use, which is perfect for those who love the city life.

Hopkins is served by the Hopkins Public School District #270. The school district has about 7,600 students for grades K-12th. There is a Family Learning Center, Transition Plus Program and XinXing Academy school for Chinese immersion. There are six elementary schools including Alice Smith Elementary School for grades K-6th at (952) 988-4200, two middle schools including Hopkins North Junior High for grades 6th through 8th at (952) 988-4800, and one high school - Hopkins High School for grades 9th through 12th - at (952) 988-4500. The City of Hopkins wants you to be aware of your neighborhood and wants you to feel safe and secure. Hopkins boasts of strong neighborhoods, making the city a very desirable place to live in. There are five Neighborhood Associations including the Meadow Creek Condominiums located at 11th Avenue South. It is the largest condo association in the state of Minnesota. Many neighborhoods have Neighborhood Crime Watch divisions that meet with a Police Services Liaison yearly. If your neighborhood does not have a Crime Watch program, contact (952) 548-6407 to start one. Neighborhoods also have a strict Noise Ordinance. Between the hours of 10pm and 7am, there is to be no noise pollution. If you feel your neighbors are being too noisy, or maybe there is a loud dog next door, you can call (952) 548-6407 to report the noise violation.

Pets can be one of the most important things in our lives. Taking care of them is equally as important. The City of Hastings wants to help you do so. By following a few simple rules you can ensure a healthl life for your pet. Animal licenses can be purchased for a dog once it is six months old. You must provide accurate vaccinations, a proof of spaying or neutering and an expiration date of a rabies tag. Licenses can be purchased for spayed or neutered pets yearly for $10, every two years for $16 and every three years for $20. Voting may be one of the most important things citizens can do. Hopkins wants to make sure your voting process is smooth and hassle free. According to Hopkins voting rules, you may register to vote 20 days preceding an election. The designated voting spots can be found online or at the City Clerk's office.
